Leona Maguire: Close race in the second major of the season

Leona Maguire is the leader after completing 54 holes at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship on the LPGA Tour. However, the Irishwoman leads the second major of the season by just one stroke and the chasing field is tightly timed. Esther Henseleit played an even par round on Moving Day.

Who will snatch victory on the LPGA Tour?

Already last week Leona Maguire celebrated a victory on the LPGA Tour and also this week there is a good chance that she can compete for the title again. After her eighth consecutive round in the 60s, the Irishwoman tops the leaderboard at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Four birdies with two bogeys were enough for a 69 on Saturday, with which the 28-year-old remains at the top. After her lap, she herself spoke of a rather quiet day, but there was still a little variety: “It was more of a colorful mixture than the last few days. Today I had a few important ups and downs from the bunkers, that kept me going and in the game”. Maguire leads by seven under par.

The Irishwoman was under pressure from Jenny Shin, who signed a bogey-free 66 on Moving Day. Five birdies catapulted her to second place in the leaderboard. Just one shot behind her Irish opponent, Shin still has every chance of victory on Sunday. Things are also getting tight in the further field of pursuit. Stephanie Meadow is third with five under par, while Ruoning Yin and Lee-Anne Pace share fourth place. Sunday at the Baltusrol Golf Club definitely promises excitement.

For Esther Henseleit, the Moving Day went much better than her second round. After a 77 on Friday, the German survived the cut, but fell back significantly in the leaderboard. On Saturday, after two bogeys and just as many birdies, she returned from the course with an even par round. She is currently on T48.
